Community Kitchen
Healthy Eating Initiative
The Healthy Eating (Community Kitchen) Initiative is dedicated to addressing the pressing issues of type 1 and type 2 diabetes and obesity in underserved and low-income communities. Our goal is to establish community kitchens that serve as centers of education, where individuals can learn to make healthier food choices, combat obesity, and manage diabetes effectively through 6- week classes. The program's primary focus is on education and cooking sessions that create well-balanced, healthy meals. Additionally, we will present the "Double Trouble" program, which is a 6-week initiative that provides information on Type 2 diabetes and hypertension, along with accompanying cooking classes. We aim to collaborate with local healthcare professionals to share valuable insights. Furthermore, we plan to work with young parents and their families to encourage the adoption of at least 70% plant-based foods in their meal plans.
